This page is an official policy on Outward Wiki.

The Outward wiki policy is based heavily on Wikipedia policy, Wowpedia Policies and the YPPedia Policies and guidelines.

This policy is considered a standard to be followed by all users.

  • You are free to suggest an adjustment to this policy. Make sure, however, that your proposal meets the requirements set here.
  • Check the Policies page for a complete overview of all the policies for the Outward Wiki.

While fan fiction is certainly a rather open field, there are some things that we would prefer to not see on Outward Wiki simply because we feel it could ruin the Outward experience for our audience. This policy is an attempt at e.g. keeping the Protoss away from Ironforge and Diablo out of Molten Core. You are of course free to write fanfic like that elsewhere, but please, not on Outward Wiki.

Clearly marking fan fiction

All fan fiction pages are required to use certain templates that denote that players created them. These tags ensure that users of Outward Wiki will be aware of when they are reading information from official Outward lore and when they are reading player created material.

Player Character

  • Follow article naming policies.
  • For a biography of a Player Character you must include the {{PC}} template to the top of the article. This template will add a banner at the top of the page that looks like this:

Template:PC

  • It will also add your article to the category Player Characters.
  • Do not add your page to any other categories.
  • Describe the basic stats of your character, including realm, guild, class, level, spec, professions, and a brief overview of its equipment.
  • Write a roleplaying biography.

Generic fan fiction

  • For fan fiction that does to meet one of the specific categories above, add the {{Fanfic}} template to the top of the article. This template will add a banner at the top of the page that look like this:

Template:Fanfic

  • It will also add your article to the fan fiction category.
  • Do not add any other categories to your fan fiction articles.
  • Do not add your fan fiction to articles in the Lore category.

Fan observations and speculation

  • For fan fiction includes some non-fiction observations and recounting of actual events, add the {{Observation}} template to the top of the article. This template will add a banner at the top of the page that look like this:

Template:Observation

  • It will also add your article to the fan observations category.
  • Do not add your fan observation to articles in the Lore category.
  • Speculation, as addressed in the writing policy for lore, should be clearly flagged with {{Speculation}} and be kept separate from factual content. Speculation should build on facts and not be completely baseless.

Fan fiction on Outward Wiki must be about Outward

Fan fiction cannot state that the Outward universe is shared with a contradictory gaming universe.
