Full Build Details

Introduction

When creating this build my goals were to maximize the lightning damage from the Starchild Claymore, maximize defensive stats such as protection and barrier, and to use various non-melee combat options such as sigil magic and drums. When fully buffed up, I found that enemy attacks barely inflicted damage to me, and when guarding, enemy attacks rarely staggered me. This build's weakness is enemies that inflict status effects, such as Scarlet Emissaries in Caldera. Overall, I found this build to be really fun to play because the mix of melee combat, sigil magic, and ritualist magic made every fight interactive and engaging.

Faction and Breakthroughs

For my faction I chose The Holy Mission of Elatt because it is essential to increase the lighting damage and defensive stats of this build. Infuse Light is a convenient source of lightning damage that is always accessible as long as you have mana. Between Spiritual Communion and Divine Assistance, I chose Spiritual Communion to further boost my lightning damage. Honestly Divine Assistance is not a bad option either if you feel that you're frequently running out of stamina and mana during fights. Purified, Sanctified Protection, and Elatt's Intervention (from TTB DLC), are all great for defensive stats.

The first skill tree I chose was Warrior Monk. The stamina is really good for a build centered around melee-combat. Master of Motion further increases resistances, while Flash Onslaught is a good way to inflict confusion on groups of enemies. With Brace and Pommel Counter already available, choosing Counterstrike would have been redundant.

The second skill tree I chose was Cabal Hermit. The buff to all boons improves offensive stats as well as defensive resistances. The Sigil of Wind + Spark combo also allows for a great source of lightning damage if you find yourself with no stamina. Conjure and Mana Push are also options to use if you want to focus more on Sigil Magic.

Lastly, Primal Ritualist is the final skill tree for this build. Sacred Fumes and Battle Rhythm provide 12 Barrier, negating a lot of elemental damage from enemies. I chose to use only the Sky Chimes with this build because of my focus on lighting damage. Sky Chimes inflict Doomed on enemies, heavily boosting your offensive potential. If you want, Ghost Drums are also a fun option to use. Reverberation is a really fun skill that I found was useful for finishing off enemies while I was really low on health.

Equipment

Weapon: The Starchild Claymore is at the center of this build, and it's one of the best weapons in the game. In addition to its high damage stats, the weapon speed makes staggering enemies really easy. Pommel Counter is also a good way to inflict Confusion on a single enemy. Enchant with Fulmination.

Runic Helm: This helm provides Protection, Barrier, reduced mana cost. With Order and Discipline enchantment, it also gives movement speed and lightning damage.

Runic Armor: This armor provides Protection, Barrier, reduced mana cost, and lightning damage. I chose to enchant this piece with Aegis for another boost in protection.

Tenebrous Boots: These boots offer reduced mana cost and helpful elemental resistances. With the Speed and Efficiency enchantment, it also gives movement speed and cooldown reduction for a skill-reliant build.

Dusk Backpack: This backpack gives a small boost in Barrier.

Other Notes

The Lightning Totemic Lodge is a great tent to boost lighting damage and reduce stamina costs. The Luxury Tent is a great early to mid-game option.

Moment of Truth is a fun end-game skill to use to finish off enemies (or delete weaker ones).

A note about combat: The wide swing of the claymore works really well with the Sky Chimes because you can often hit both the enemy and the Sky Chime with one swing. For me, this is why the Starchild Claymore is a superior choice compared to the Werlig Spear.

Taking 3 points of Mana was a good amount make Sigil Magic viable in the early game for me.

These are the stats I was able to get with just the Lightning Totemic Lodge, Rage, Discipline, Infuse Light, and Blessed, Sky Chimes, and Dusk Backpack. Additional offensive and defensive stats can be gained from potions and the Chapel in Caldera.
