Full Build Details

The Gold-Lich Spear is an excellent weapon, especially for a beginner. It is one of the longer spears, with a significant range in melee, only slightly shorter than the Old Legion Spear or Griigmerk kÄramerk, which are the longest weapons in the game. This means that enemies can be attacked without retaliation, especially if using the special spear attack. Unlike those two spears with extreme range, the Gold-Lich Spear also has relatively high durability at 400 compared to 225 or 200, so the damage of the Gold-Lich spear won't degrade as quickly over time. (Tip: Consider carrying two Gold-Lich Spears in case one runs low on durability in longer expeditions.) As for the damage, although the Gold-Lich Spear does not have the greatest amount of damage, it does inflict the Doomed status effect, which synergizes well with the lightning damage that it provides. Moreover, this ensures that even against enemies with extreme physical and lighting resistance, some damage will be dealt, which is ideal for a beginner who might not know the vulnerabilities of various enemies.

The gear is also not too difficult to acquire. Although the Gold-Lich Spear requires Gold-Lich Mechanisms to craft, these can be acquired without actually fighting the Light Mender Boss. One easy way to pick up a few is to lure some Stekosaurs to the area right in front of the Spire of Light. A Golden Minion and Golden Specter can be found in this area, and if enough Stekosaurs can be lured to them (more Stekosaurs can be found near the Stekosaur's Burrow nearby), the Stekosaurs may kill the Golden Minion and Golden Specter. The player may then loot Gold-Lich Mechanisms to craft the Gold-Lich Spear. The White Priest Hood may not be found while adventuring. It can be purchased in Monsoon for only 260 silver. Silver Armor can be found while adventuring in the Hallowed Marsh or purchased in several locations. The Wolf Medic Boots may be slightly more difficult to acquire as they can only be found while adventuring in the Antique Plateau or as a rare purchase from Pholiota. To acquire the Boozu Hide Backpack, some Boozu must be slain. Fortunately, they are weak to Lightning damage and their attacks lack range, so they shouldn't be too difficult to kill if you already have the Gold-Lich Spear.

The pieces of equipment were chosen to increase lightning damage while providing corruption resistance, reasonable damage resistances, and a small amount of healing over time. The lightning damage increase obviously allows the player to kill enemies more quickly. Corruption resistance is particularly useful to the beginner as they may not know how to deal with corruption or may not be able to rush through corrupted areas as quickly as someone with more experience. Healing over time is also useful to the beginner who may opt to run away and wait if loosing a fight. With patience, this may save a player who is not yet accustomed to optimizing their consumable use. A reasonable spread of damage resistances (a moderate amount of physical, impact, and elemental resistances, though ethereal and lightning resistances are missing) ensures that a beginner can take a few hits and will not get one-shot before they can learn.

The enchantments certainly enhance the build, although they are not essential. All add some amount of lightning damage, which is nice. Elatt's Sanctity and Spirit of Monsoon also add corruption resistance. Elatt's Sanctity and Flux should be least difficult to acquire as they require the standard Pale Beauty Incense, so no Purifying Quartz is necessary. Acquiring the Purifying Quartz for Apollo Incense for Spirit of Monsoon may take some more time. Fortunately, the availability of enchanting ingredients has been increased with the definitive edition. Fulmination is more of a late game enchantment, as it requires building the Enchanting Guild in New Sirocco. Consider joining the world of another player to acquire this without having to join a faction and significantly progress the main story, though the enchantment is by no means necessary. The build will work fine without it.

Make sure to buff yourself with Blessed before any fight, either by using the spell or a potion (if mana has not been acquired yet--though one point in mana is nearly always worthwhile and sufficient for this build). Consider also utilizing a lightning imbue to further enhance damage. In combat, keep your distance from the enemy. You should be close enough that you can hit them with your special attack at all times but they can't hit you. With some practice, the optimal position may be found. If the enemy drops their guard, a special attack may be utilized to deal damage that they likely can't respond to. If the enemy tries to charge, utilize Simeon's Gambit or Brace to counter the attack. This should put the enemy at below half stability, so retaliate with basic attacks for maximum damage. Sweep Kick (or Push Kick, if Sweep Kick hasn't been learned yet) may also be utilized to reduce stability to below half so that basic attacks stagger. Against new or more dangerous enemies, the best strategy is to stay at range, dealing damage with special attacks only. That way enemy attack patterns may be learned without much risk.
