Liberate the Sun is a Quest in Outward. It is eleventh in the series of main quests, and is the third quest of the Sirocco quest-line.

Quest Summary

To continue the expansion of the city of New Sirocco, you will need to help Evangeline solve the temperature control issue. Complete construction of a total of 3 specialized buildings and an upgrade to an existing building within 150 days. Once completed you will need to ask the Djinn for assistance in moving the Emberheart to New Sirocco.

“Temperature Control” pipes are being installed in 150 Days. Evangeline may have a more efficient solution for you to pursue, once Building Tasks are done.

The Settlement requires:
  • At least 3 Specialized buildings
  • At least 1 Upgraded Specialized Building

Like previous quests, you must build a certain amount of specialized buildings in New Sirocco (as well as an upgrade to an existing building) within 150 days. If you are struggling to find the proper rare materials to build the buildings, refer to the Unidentified Samples page.

If you do not succeed in building the necessary buildings before the end of the 150 days you will miss out on an expansion to the number of buildings you can place in New Sirocco.

Once completed, return to Evangeline to progress the efforts towards improving the Temperature Control in the settlement.

Speak with Evangeline Vallier about a better Temperature Control method.

Evangeline will tell you that she believes that the best way to improve temperature is to transfer the Emberheart from the Eldest Brother to New Sirocco. To do this, she tasks the player with gaining the aid of the Djinn, who had moved it previously. She also informs you that the best way to go about this is to find a Noble with information on the Djinn.

Gain the aid of the Djinn in the lower tunnels of the Oil Refinery.

It is possible to reach the Djinn in the Oil Refinery before acquiring the amulet, but you will be unable to persuade him to help you, so it is advised to go get the amulet first to save some time.

Ark of the Exiled

The Djinn can flee when defeated...You'll need to find the method the Nobles used to control him.
A Noble may have a method to help keep the Djinn's power in check...The Calygreys may have one prisoner somewhere.

The noble can be found in the Ark of the Exiled, accessed via the second level. You can reach this area from any of the Ark of the Exiled's 6 locations - simply drop down from the top level, or take the elevators up from the bottom level.

Keep in mind that when you take the amulet from the nobleman, a Scarlet Emissary will appear in his place. Prepare before talking to him so that he does not take you by surprise.

From the entrance to the second level (the main entrance from most locations), head directly forward and down the large flight of stairs heading south, then down another flight of stairs. Turn left and you will be in a dimly lit room filled with metal caging. Edward Orville is at the very back of this room, locked inside a small cage. Speak to the noble and continue through any of the dialogue to take the amulet from him, after which a Scarlet Emissary will spawn in his place and become aggressive to you. You do not need to fight it to continue the quest.

Oil Refinery

First lever.
You can now prevent the Djinn from fleeing when defeated.

After acquiring the amulet, make your way to the Oil Refinery in northern Caldera. There are multiple entrances to the Oil Refinery, and you will first need to enter via the top-most entrance at the Oil Refinery map marker, a few steps north-west from where the map icon lies.

From the entrance, take the path immediately on your right to the east, until you reach a metal bridge with a Gargoyle on your right. Head onto the metal bridge and you will find the first lever here on a small platform. Pull it and run out quickly to avoid the Gargoyle, back to the entrance, and leave this area of the refinery.

Back in Caldera, head south-east towards the Refinery Outflow Pipe, climbing down the charred mountainside along a stone path. You will come to a large pipe next to a broken bridge, make your way into the outflow pipe and enter the dungeon.

Fourth lever.

In the lower Oil Refinery, head south into a room with several Calygrey and some machinery. Directly ahead on the first machine you will see a lever, pull it. Turn to your right and you will now be able to head further down the metal ramp. Head east as far as you can and you will come to a second lever, pull it to lower the oil further. Head back up the metal ramp and north along the passage, back into the first room. Take the path heading west through a new tunnel where you will find a Gargoyle along with the final lever, pull it and run away quickly or defeat the Gargoyle.

Return to the area with the second lever and the metal ramp. To the right of the ramp is a new tunnel you can head down into a small room with a Torcrab, and paths leading to your left and right. If you go to the right you will reach the room with the Ruined Halberd, and if you go to the left you will come to an area with 2 paths and a gate.

Down the path to the left, take the first left into a room with a Gargoyle and a final lever. Pull this lever and leave this small room, then continue to your left into another room with 2 Medyse. Follow the short path on your left to a wooden box with the Refinery Key: Upper on it and take the key. Next, on the ground next to the 2 Medyse you will find the Refinery Key: Depths, take it as well.

Turn around and head back a short distance to a gate which you can unlock with your key, followed by another gate you can unlock with your second key. You will enter a large room with a platform leading upwards to Djinn. Speak to Djinn and choose Tex men talkIcon.png 2 and agree to fight him. After defeating his first form, speak to him again and you will need to fight his second, more powerful form. Finally after defeating his second form he will agree to move the rock in New Sirocco for you, and says he will meet you back in New Sirocco.

Return to Evangeline Vallier

Back in New Sirocco, speak to Evangeline to receive your rewards.
