From the Ashes is a Quest in Outward. It is ninth in the series of main quests, and is the first major quest of the Sirocco quest-line.

Quest Summary

Note: it is highly recommended to prepare a large supply of Gold Ingot or Silver before you begin, as the Sirocco quest line requires a large investment to rebuild the city, and there is a timer for you to finish your construction.

This quest has a timer of 150 days, after which workers will start leaving the settlement, slowing down your construction speeds permanently.

Walkthrough

New Sirocco

The Blueprint store inventory.

After arriving in New Sirocco, head east towards the Stockpile where you will find Dorion Dumas, Josef Dumas and Evangeline Vallier, and a conversation will begin. After the conversation you will receive 7000 Funds Funds, 50 Food Food, 100 Timber Timber, and 100 Stone Stone to help in construction, as well as access to building.

Speak with Josef Dumas about Construction.

After the conversation, speak with Josef about construction. He will go over the basics for building and will ask the player to build at least two resource production buildings and at least one house. Josef also will inform you that the supplies you have brought to help rebuild the city will only last for 150 days. After 150 days pass, many workers will leave to seek refuge in Monsoon. Failure to complete the quest in this time frame will result in a permanent loss of 25% building speed.

Your initial supplies will only last 150 days. Workers will abandon the settlement after that time, slowing construction speed...Dorion may find a way for you to help, once Building Tasks are done.
The Settlement requires:
  • At least two resource production buildings.
  • At least 1 House.

Josef will now sell blueprints which you will need to begin construction. Speak to Josef again to purchase blueprints for your desired buildings. The resource production buildings that can be built are either the Hunting Lodge, the Mason's Workshop, or the Woodcutter's Lodge. All resource production buildings require at least one house to be built prior. Houses and resource buildings are non-interactable once construction is finished so it is a good idea to build these away from the entrance.

Speak with Dorion Dumas about preventing workers from abandoning the settlement.

Once you have built at least one house and two resource production buildings speak to Dorion to progress. He will tell you that the workers are suffering from Ambraine withdrawal, and that the surrounding land is understandably unfit for growing and require a special fertilizer to grow more crops. The new fertilizer requires a freshly-laid Myrmitaur egg that has been taken to the Sulphuric Caverns and dipped in a blue pool of sulphur.

Myrmitaur Hives

The entrance to the Myrmitaur's Haven.
The nest containing the Myrm egg.
Retrieve a Myrm Egg from the depths of the Myrmitaur Haven.

Make your way west of New Sirocco to the Ruined Village and then northwest to the Myrmitaur's Haven marked on the map as Myrmitaur Hives. Head west and down the hill along the outer wall of the hives until you reach the entrance. Head into the first room containing a single Myrmitaur. Fight or run past it and follow the northern tunnel entrance into the next large cave containing another Myrmitaur. Take the southern tunnel entrance then take a left towards the next large room where the Matriarch Myrmitaur and Mrym Egg Nest are located. Past the Matriarch Myrmitaur interact with the egg nest and grab one of the Mrym eggs.

Sulphuric Caverns

The main sulphuric cavern and the southern tunnel.
The Blue Sulphur Pool.
Examine the Blue Sulphur Pool in the Sulphuric Caverns.

Once you have the Myrm Egg, exit the Myrmitaur Hives and head northeast towards the Sulphuric Caverns. Head west through the tunnel until you enter a large open room with a thick layer of poison gas, two Elder Medyse, and one Drifting Medyse. Head through the southern tunnel and take a left up the metal ramp where you will find three nobles that have escaped from Old Sirocco. One wielding a Damascene Greataxe, one a Militia Bow and Iron Sword, and one a Militia Axe and Militia Shield. As you approach them a conversation will start, after which they will become hostile.

Once you have dealt with the nobles, proceed into the dimly lit room with blue light where you will find the Blue Sulphur Pool. Interact with it to dip the Myrm Egg into the liquid. Once this is done, return to Dorion in New Sirocco and give him the ingredients to make the special fertilizer.

New Sirocco

Return to Dorion Dumas.

Speak to Dorion in New Sirocco. Upon giving Dorion the Myrmitaur Egg Fertilizer he will remark on the smell. After a brief explanation of the nobles you encountered in the caverns, Josef will inform you of the new specialized blueprints he now has available for purchase. He will also mention that Evangeline led a raid on Old Sirocco while the player was away and has brought back the spoils.

You will be rewarded with 5000 Funds Funds, 200 SilverIcon.gif silver, and two Frosted Delight regardless of whether you completed the quest in time.

If you fail to return to Dorion before the 150 day time limit has lapsed he will also inform you that some of the workers have left and that production will be slowed permanently.

Outcomes

Regardless of failure you will receive:

Failure

  • All Building construction is 25% slower from now on.
